This is my first attempt at posting a mock draft in an actual blog. I didn't spend much time on this first one, but as we get closer to the actual draft time of year, that's when it'll get more in-depth and actually make more sense. It's never too early to make a mock draft.
1. Titans-Sam Bradford QB, Oklahoma
It would be perfect to see the Titans drafting at the number one spot and Jeff Fischer fired. They've got a great offensive line and running game, but the defense isn't what it used to be and the QB position is a huge problem.
2. Buccanneers- Ndumukong Suh DT, Nebraska
The Bucs draft their new Warren Sapp to try to regain their old strength. Clearly Leftwich wasn't the answer, but Josh Freeman/Johnson will be in battle for the starting job. Raheem Morris has quite a task ahead of him.
3. Rams- Jimmy Clausen QB, Notre Dame
Watching him play, he clearly has the measurements for an NFL QB, battling through the foot injury has hindered his performance, but he still has done well for ND.
4. Chiefs- Russell Okung OT, Oklahoma State
In short: Aaron Curry>Tyson Jackson. Scott Pioli will need some more time. Cassell isn't looking too hot either.
5. Lions- Eric Berry S, Tennessee
The Lions need to take the best available player because there simply is no other option since they are seriously lacking at so many positions. Detroit has gotten off to a good start in their effort to build up a lost franchise.
6. Browns- Jake Locker QB, Washington
We'll have to wait until after the combine and private workouts to see where each QB ranks. The Browns are a bad organization, in my opinion. They're giving up on Brady Quinn, who they traded into the first round to get in 2007. A few games and that's it? That's awful. Isn't he learning a new offense? New coach? Terrible receivers?
7. Redskins- Tim Tebow QB, Florida
Dan Snyder, Tebow has the heart of an angel, the motivational speaking ability of Lou Holtz, and a toughness that I can hardly believe....but he isn't an NFL QB.
8. Seahawks- Trent Williams OT, Oklahoma
Walter Jones' career is winding down, so it might be time for Seattle to get that new franchise left tackle. I think they expect Hasselback to play a few more years, so they will hold off on drafting a new franchise QB.
9. Raiders- Carlos Dunlap DE, Florida
High potential with this pick, plus he has a good 40 time, which means that Al Davis will want him more than anything else his cold, old heart could desire.
10. Bills-Jevan Snead QB, Ole Miss
Jevan isn't having the best year, but he is the type of QB the scouts like. Buffalo is a mess and Jauron is gone, barring some miracle the rest of this season. I'm going to assume that Snead gets this season back on track and has a good combine and workouts in order to hold a possible first round grade.
11. Dolphins- Sean Witherspoon OLB, Missouri
Every other mock draft that I've seen has the Dolphins taking a linebacker. This is a given I think. But which linebacker? There are so many available here, the Dolphins might not be able to go wrong. I believe that Witherspoon is the best out of all of them.
12. 49ers (from Panthers)- Gerald McCoy DT, Oklahoma
McCoy drops here, but I don't actually see this happening on draft day. McCoy should be picked in the top 10. Mike Singletary will be able to plug in McCoy and he'll hold up 2 blockers, allowing Patrick Willis to run even wilder.
13. Chargers- Bryan Bulaga OT, Iowa
The Chargers need help on their offensive line more than anything. That offensive rushing attack just shouldn't be last in the league after 5 weeks. LT and Sproles desperately need a better offensive line in front of them in order to be successful again.
14. Jets- Dez Bryant WR, Oklahoma State
Mark Sanchize is going to have plenty of targets for years to come if the Jets go with adding a receiver here. They got Braylon Edwards, but a receiver on the other side is needed. Linebacker could be another option.
15. Jaguars- Taylor Mays S, USC
Couldn't be happier that Mays made it down to 15 here. The likelihood of this happening is slim, but I could see it happening. Mays would be a welcome sight in the Jaguars' secondary, as they're hurting pretty bad back there (30th against the pass). Reggie Nelson only plays two-hand touch and Considine/Alexander aren't supposed to be starters in this league.
16. Texans- Joe Haden CB, Florida
The Texans need help on their defense...badly. They also need inside linemen, offensive and another defensive tackle. Their run offense is very poor, but then again, who knew that Steve Slaton wasn't what many thought he was?
17. Ravens- Arthur Jones DT, Syracuse
Finally the Ravens have an offense!...Damn, but their defense is in a steep decline. Trevor Price and Kelly Gregg are getting pretty old and it looks as if Ozzie Newsome needs to replenish his defensive line.
18. 49ers- Morgan Burnett S, Georgia Tech
I would like to think that this pick could be used in a packaged deal to send the 49ers up in the draft in order to allow them to draft a QB. Since trades aren't predicted here, I'm going to give them a safety to help out with that pass defense ranking.
19. Eagles- Rolando McClain LB, Alabama
The Eagles just traded for Will Witherspoon, but they'll still need another linebacker since their linebackers may be hitting up free agency. McNabb is getting Alzheimer's...first he doesn't know the OT rules, now this year he forgot how many timeouts per half his team gets.
20. Packers- Charles Brown OT, USC
Luckily for Ted Thompson, the best available player fits with the biggest need that they have. Too many sacks have been given up this year by the Packers offensive line. Brown will provide at least some backup if the Packers' offensive line crumbles again next season. Cornerback is also a need as Charles Woodson and Al Harris are getting older and older.
21. Cowboys- Selvish Capers, OT, West Virginia
The Cowboys need to improve that offensive line, especially at the tackle position because of Flozell Adams. The problem is very obvious. A lot of offensive tackles and quarterbacks are being taken in this first round, so it's looking like a good year for the two positions.
22. Broncos (from Bears)- Travis Lewis, LB, Oklahoma
The Broncos have really surprised me this year. Orton has a big time receiver and he's taking advantage. Someh0w the Broncos defense has gone from one of the worst to first. Jeremy McDaniels will hopefully have better luck with personnel this next offseason than he did last.
23. Cardinals- Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland
The Cardinals are awful once again in the ground game. I think with a better offensive line, Tim Hightower and Beanie Wells will be able to establish more of a running attack, opening up the passing game even more for Kurt and the receivers.
24. Steelers- Mike Iupati, OG, Idaho
It's been well documented that the Steelers' offensive line has been their weakness for the past 2 seasons. I think they address that need in the first round unlike last year's first rounder which was a defensive lineman (Ziggy Hood, DT).
25. Patriots- Corey Wootton, DE, Northwestern
Bill Belichick and the Patriots are smart. They know how important your defensive front 7 and offensive lines are. They got a first rounder from Oakland (2011) and it was just genious.
26. Bengals- Jerry Hughes, DE/OLB, TCU
Give the Bengals credit. They have come back nicely from last year's bad record (5-10-1) and are playing nicely. I think an addition to the defensive line would help the pass defense.
27. Falcons- Greg Hardy, DE/OLB, Ole Miss
The Falcons were pushed around very easily by the Patriots a few weeks ago. Their defensive line needs more improvements, even thought they drafted DT Peria Jerry this past draft (he's out for the year). Here I have them drafting Jerry's old teammate from Ole Miss.
28. Giants- Eric Norwood, OLB, South Carolina
The Giants got burned by Drew Brees and dropped the G-Men like a sack of potatoes. They will keep on adding to their defense, which has happened in the past. Coughlin just knows how to build a team.
29. Vikings- Colt McCoy QB, Texas
Tavaris Jackson, in my opinion, will be gone along with Brett Favre after this season is over. I don't see how they go back to Tavaris after Favre. But alot could change between now and the offseason.
30. Seahawks (from Denver)- Jahvid Best, RB, California
Seattle desperately needs a rushing attack. Best has put himself in the forefront of this year's draft class of running backs. He's a big smallish, but we've seen from Maurice Jones-Drew and Darren Sproles that little men can pack big punches.
31. Colts- Terrence Cody, DT, Alabama
The Colts really need help at defensive tackle. I think taking Cody will put a clog in any rush offense that they'll play. Indianapolis and Bill Polian would be wise to take a big stuffer such as Cody.
32. Saints- Nate Allen, S, USF
The Saints don't really have a need anywhere. They are solid across the board and their record is showing it. I was really impressed by the way they beat the Giants. This team is the team to beat this year.
